On September 14, 2017, after 12 years with the college, Dr. Zane sent out a campus-wide email explaining that she had “advised the Board of Trustees of [her] intent to retire effective June 30, 2018.”

Later in her announcement, she explained that the Board of Trustees would be responsible for choosing her successor.

Despite her now-well-known plan to retire from her position, she claims that she will not become a “lame duck” and she “pledges to [the students of Hilbert College] that [she] will sustain and increase [her] efforts to continue the great work being done at Hilbert College.”
