Hawks Football Improves in Second Outing

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Willamette University Bearcats flew in from Salem, Oregon, for the matchup against the Hilbert College Hawks and found a much-improved Hawks team awaiting them.

How It Happened:

1st Quarter:
Bearcats quarterback Aidan Kuykendall scored early on an 8-yard run. Hilbert followed their scoring drive by running an end around pass from WR Andre Augustiniak that resulted in an 18-yard touchdown to Joseph Stover. A successful onside kick by Eric Cline gave Hilbert the ball right back. The ensuing drive was capped off by a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jeremiah Caviness to Nicholas Rinker. Willamette answered on a 34-yard passing touchdown by Kuykendall. End of 1Q: 14-14.

2nd and 3rd Quarter:
Willamette controlled the second and third quarters adding a field goal from Dirnberger and two passing touchdowns from Kuykendall. End of 3Q: 31-14

4th Quarter:
Jake Dressel completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Deondre Rice. The two-point conversion attempt was no good. Final Score: 31-20.

Talking Stats:
Caviness completed 16 of 21 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Henlon picked up 61 yards on the ground. Joseph Stover led all receivers with 6 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Defensively Emmanuel Land IV and Taivaughn Roach provided 9 and 8 tackles respectively for a defense that was much harder to move a ball against this week. Thomas Howard Jr. had 5 tackles and an interception when Willamette was driving in the second half.
